Legal
Terms of Use
Pre-launch summary. The full Terms of Use are in final legal review. The points below describe the deal between you and Markhunt; the launch-day version will be the binding document.
1. The deal in one sentence
Markhunt is free to play. You can buy optional boosters. We give away small Amazon e-gift codes to the top three explorers each week.
2. Your account
You need to be at least 16, sign in with Google or play as a guest, and use the service for yourself, not on behalf of someone else. One account per person. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in safe.
3. Fair play
You must physically be at a landmark to check in. GPS spoofing, mock locations, automation, multiple accounts, and any other attempt to fake a visit will result in the visit being voided, points removed, and in repeat cases the account suspended. Decisions about anti-cheat are at our reasonable discretion; we will tell you why if we void something of yours.
4. Boosters
Boosters are optional in-app items bought through Stripe. Prices are shown in pounds sterling including VAT where applicable. Boosters are consumable and non-refundable once used; unused boosters can be refunded within 14 days under UK consumer law. See the FAQ for the booster mechanics or email hello@markhunt.app for a refund.
5. Prizes
Prizes are governed by the Prize Rules. There is no fee to enter the weekly prize round and no purchase increases your chance of winning — boosters affect your score, but the prize draw verifies on-foot visits, not boosted points. This keeps the round within the UK Gambling Commission's definition of a free prize competition.
6. Content and licences
Markhunt's name, logo, and code belong to us. Landmark photography is licensed under a mix of Creative Commons, original photography, and stock licences — the full register is maintained per L6-08. You can share your own visit journal screenshots freely.
7. What we are responsible for
We will try to keep Markhunt running but we cannot guarantee it will always be available. We are responsible for direct losses we cause through our own fault, up to the amount you have paid us in the last 12 months. We are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, your personal safety while walking around the city, or anything caused by you breaking these terms.
8. Walking safely
Markhunt is a walking game. Pay attention to traffic, the weather, and your surroundings. Do not check in from a road, a railway line, or any private property where you are not welcome.
9. Closing your account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings or by emailing privacy@markhunt.app. We can suspend or close accounts that break these terms.
10. Law and changes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If we change them we will tell you 30 days in advance for material changes. The version that applied when you used the service is the version that governs that use.
