London Zone 1 · Soft launch 2026

Your city, hunted.

Markhunt is a walking scavenger hunt for London Zone 1. About fifty landmarks. One weekly round. Find them on foot, log them on the map, and see how the week shakes out.

What is Markhunt

A walking game that fits in your phone.

Three things, in plain English. No download. No subscription. Open it in your browser, allow location, and start walking.

Explore landmarks

Around fifty hand-picked spots across Zone 1 — statues, plaques, river views, quiet courtyards. The kind of places you walk past without looking up.

Beat the clock with boosters

Optional Booster Shop items double your points, reveal a nearby mark, or freeze the timer for a stretch. Skip the shop entirely and the game still works.

Play for a weekly prize round

Each round closes on Sunday. Top three explorers split £50 in Amazon e-gift codes — £25, £15, £10 — emailed Monday. New round opens straight after.

How it works

Three steps, then the walking starts.

Markhunt runs in your browser — Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android, anything modern. Add it to your home screen if you want the app feel.

  1. Open the map

Sign in with Google or carry on as a guest. The week's marks appear on a clean MapTiler map of central London. Pick one nearby.

  2. Walk to a mark

Get close enough and Markhunt confirms the visit. One line in your journal: "Nice spot. That's one for the journal." Points are added quietly.

  3. See where the round lands

Sunday evening the round closes. You see your finds, where you sit among This Week's Explorers, and whether a prize email is on its way.

Weekly prize round

Frequently asked

Questions worth answering up front.

What does Markhunt do with my location?

Your phone's GPS is used only while the app is open, only to confirm you're near a mark. We never sell location data, never share it with third parties for ads, and you can play entire stretches with location off — you just won't be able to log a visit. Full detail lives in the privacy policy.

How do you stop people cheating with GPS spoofing?

Each visit is checked against expected walking speed, time-of-day windows for the mark, and a few server-side signals we'd rather not detail in full. Suspicious visits are quietly dropped from the weekly tally — no public shaming, no streak loss. If your week's score looks off, contact support and we'll look at it by hand.

How does the weekly prize draw work?

Rounds run Monday 00:00 to Sunday 23:59 London time. The three highest verified scores receive Amazon e-gift codes (£25, £15, £10) by email on Monday. Open to UK residents aged 18+, one verified account per person. Boosters are allowed; scripts and automation are not. Full terms are linked from the prize panel.

Do I need to pay to play?

No. The game, the map, the weekly round and the prize draw are all free. The optional Booster Shop sells small in-game items (double points, reveal a nearby mark, timer freeze). Skip the shop entirely and you can still finish on the prize board.

Where does Markhunt work?

Version one covers London Zone 1 only — roughly fifty marks inside the Circle line and a little beyond. English-only at launch. If we get this right, we'll add Zone 2 and a second city next.
